Born 1947 in Kairouan, he is a renowned director and writer of narratives and documentaries, known for The Magic Box (2002), The Hyena's Sun (1977) that was selected in Cannes’s Directors' Fortnight and Champagne Amer (1986). Les hirondelles ne meurent pas à Jerusalem (1994) won The Critics’ Prize in Carthage Film Festival. His films were presented over the years in international film festivals including Venice and Toronto as well.
